How did Sports Fusion build a secure, scalable, and cost-controlled AWS platform?

Sports Fusion delivers digital platforms for the sports sector, supporting organisations and users who depend on reliable, secure, and high-performing technology. As demand increased, its AWS environment needed to scale confidently while staying cost-controlled and resilient.

Cloud Bridge partnered with Sports Fusion to modernise its AWS environment, reduce risk, improve cost visibility, and provide 24/7 managed service and security support.

The result: a stronger, more stable, and more cost-aware cloud platform built for growth.

Who is Sports Fusion?
Sports Fusion is a UK-based technology provider delivering digital platforms for the sports sector. Its solutions support governing bodies, leagues, clubs, and participants with tools for competition management, scheduling, participation tracking, and digital engagement.

The platform underpins day-to-day operations across grassroots and organised sport, supporting thousands of users including administrators, coaches, and participants. With growing adoption across multiple sports and organisations, Sports Fusion operates at scale where reliability, performance, and security are critical to maintaining user trust and service continuity.

The Challenge

The project was driven by a combination of growth, increasing technical risk, and the need for stronger cost control. As platform usage expanded, legacy Kubernetes environments reached end-of-life, creating security and operational risk. At the same time, limited cost visibility made it harder to forecast and optimise AWS spend. Internal teams were also under pressure managing day-to-day operations, reducing their ability to focus on innovation.

Why did Sports Fusion choose Cloud Bridge?

Sports Fusion chose Cloud Bridge for its deep AWS specialism, strong Kubernetes expertise, and ability to combine modernisation, FinOps, security, and managed services into a single engagement.
The decision was driven by Cloud Bridge’s ability to act as a proactive partner rather than reactive support — bringing structured governance, clear cost optimisation strategies, and 24/7 operational coverage. Responsiveness, technical credibility, and experience in managing production-critical AWS environments were key factors.

What did Cloud Bridge deliver?

Cloud Bridge delivered services across a range of AWS-native and Kubernetes technologies, including:
• Amazon EKS (Kubernetes platform modernisation)
• Amazon EC2 and Auto Scaling for compute optimisation
• AWS Savings Plans and Cost Explorer for cost control
• Amazon CloudWatch for monitoring and alerting
• AWS IAM and security best practices for governance
• Infrastructure improvements aligned to AWS Well-Architected Framework

Kubernetes environments were upgraded and standardised, with improved observability and operational tooling introduced. Monitoring and alerting were enhanced through CloudWatch, alongside proactive managed service support.

Platform Stability
Cloud Bridge upgraded multiple Kubernetes clusters from unsupported versions to fully supported Amazon EKS environments, improving resilience and reducing operational risk.
This resulted in improved platform reliability, fewer incidents related to infrastructure instability, and a more consistent deployment and upgrade model across environments.

Cost Control
Cloud Bridge identified optimisation opportunities across compute workloads and implemented Savings Plans aligned to usage patterns.

Typical outcomes included:
• 15–25% reduction in AWS compute costs through right-sizing and commitment planning
• Improved cost allocation and visibility across workloads
• More accurate forecasting of monthly cloud spend

Security & Governance
Key improvements included:

• Removal of end-of-life Kubernetes environments, eliminating known vulnerabilities
• Strengthened IAM controls and access governance
• Improved monitoring and alerting for security events
• Alignment to AWS best practices for operational and security governance
This reduced exposure to security risks and improved audit readiness across the platform.

Results

  • 20%+ reduction in AWS costs through optimisation and Savings Plans

  • 100% of Kubernetes environments upgraded to supported versions

  • Reduction in infrastructure-related incidents through platform stabilisation

  • Improved cost forecasting accuracy and financial visibility

  • Significant reduction in internal operational overhead through 24/7 managed service support

“Cloud Bridge helped us modernise our platform, reduce operational risk, and gain real control over our AWS environment. We now have the confidence to scale securely while focusing our internal teams on delivering value to our users.” - Sports Fusion
